Kicking Gnomes: Winter 2013/14

I don't think my winter slash Christmas slash birthday slash Valentine's (jerk...) was as fruitful as some, but here are a few titles I added to my collection this winter.

Nate, Nate and Nate are united at last! I never actually owned copies of Uncharted 2 and 3, I just borrowed them from others, and I'm pretty sure I gave my copy of the first title away a long time ago. But after picking up and replaying the original, I decided it was time the trilogy joined my collection permanently. Love this series. You can read my wrap up for Uncharted here!

Just in time for the release of Dark Souls 2, I'm reminded that I've played neither of this series' previous titles. All I've been told is that I will most definitely be playing these games dead. That's encouraging!

While perusing the game shop, I spied a copy of Tales of Graces for a decent price (this is extraordinarily rare in my area), and figured it was damn well time I picked this up. It is now the only recent Tales game I haven't finished and I have every intention of enjoying the hell out of it!

I was told with force to get the "international" version of Star Ocean: The Last Hope, because it has dual audio. Apparently the English acting is so bad in this game that you shouldn't even play it. Just as well, I prefer Japanese games IN Japanese anyway. Star Ocean games have always entertained me in the past, so I look forward to seeing what this one has to offer.

Also Tales-related: Xillia! $10 on PSN left me with no excuse. Chances are I will buy a physical copy some day, but for 10 bucks, I simply couldn't wait any longer. Click here for the wrap up!

When I demanded my friend return my copy of Bioshock recently, he surprised me with this reminder that I had lent him inFAMOUS 2 as well. So in celebration of the release of Second Son (which I don't own...) I purchased a new copy of the original inFAMOUS too, so my collection will be complete... some day...

Speaking of Bioshock, I recently repurchased Bioshock 2, since my copy disappeared some time ago. Everything in my life has been reminding me of these games lately, and I'm getting the itch to replay them (I smell a wrap up in the future...).

Also added to my 360 collection, I finally picked up a copy of Fallout 3. This is another one of those western RPGs that I've not given any attention to, but I hear many good things so I'll have to check this out soon.

After my glowing review of Blue Dragon, many people were lining up to borrow the game from me, so I picked up an extra copy just in case. Seriously people, I paid $7 for this. If you like RPGs and haven't played this… get on it.

And then there's Deadpool. The guys at the game shop were genuinely concerned about a woman buying this. They asked me if I had read reviews and if I knew what I was getting myself into. I'm pretty sure I've made this clear to my regulars: I love Deadpool. This game is concentrated hilarity and I love it!

I had picked this up for someone's birthday, but felt immediately jealous that I didn't own it. It was on sale, so I got meself a copy, too! Now I'm afraid to start it 'cause I'm pretty sure I won't be able to clock a reasonable amount of time on it...

And finally, another copy of Tales of Vesperia. Because you can never have too many, and it's a totally boss game. In case I haven't made this clear: I run a veritable library from my game collection, and I usually don't have a copy of a game within reach. So I often purchase duplicates - especially of favorites - so my chances of having a copy on hand when I want to replay it increases dramatically. That said, this copy has already been borrowed…

Also, in restoring my relationship with Playstation, I subscribed to PS Plus again this winter, so I've begun downloading many of the free and/or heavily discounted titles you get from them. I don't think I'm going to make a habit of mentioning these in the future, as I don't particularly love digital copies, and also anyone can pretty much guess what I've added to my collection by simply investigating the PS Plus free games library. Unless I've some additional comment to make (see Xillia), I'll omit these additions in future blogs.

I've also found some goofy, game-y stuff to collect dust in my home:
I shared this on twitter a while ago, but while cleaning my parent's basement, I happened across this neat Phantom Hourglass promotional metal lunchbox. I love finding treasures like this.
I also happened across these random candies, in this familiar ? box, and some Star Wars candy in these R2 & Vader toys. Not necessarily game related, but I couldn't pass them up!

I feel like I'm starting to get into a rhythm of buying games regularly again, so hopefully these blogs will start to get bigger and a little more interesting. I need to get back to building my retro collection again, too. All these shiny new(ish) games are starting to make me miss my cartridges!
